AIE’s EAP course offers a highly effective, contemporary style of English Language Teaching using research-based teaching methods and an exciting textbook and resources proven in the industry. The curriculum uses the very latest ideas about effective teaching to satisfy clients’ expectations of high quality learning and assessment systems. This EAP course uses task-based learning (TBLT) to provide learners with the necessary Academic English (AE) language skills for the formal communication demands of English-based tertiary education. It offers well-designed researchbased learning opportunities for using target AE to develop a new Englishlanguage dimension for our students’ academic purposes.

Course Structure
Availability of classes is subject to student numbers
Entry Requirements
Students must be 18 years old.
Students must have successfully completed General English at an intermediate level.
Learners will be tested on arrival so that they can be placed in class suitable for their English proficiency level. During the course a number of assessment methods are used, including:
• In-class participation
• Homework tasks
• Formal and informal class tests• Interview with a staff member
• Research assignments
• Completion of computer assisted language learning (CALL) and online language tasks
• Participation in group activities
Students receive continuous feedback from their teachers about the progress and regular written reports.

The objectives of this course are for the learners to:
1. Use new language in the form of relevant Academic English (AE)
2. Develop effective listening strategies and critical thinking skills with AE
3. Develop independent learning strategies
4. Build mental concentration skills for optimal task achievement
5. Adopt an academic vocabulary learning strategy using resources such as the Academic Word List (AWL) proven effective for overall AE progress
6. Avoid plagiarism by embracing habitual academic acknowledgment and citation skills
7. Benefit from a Learner Portfolio approach underpinning self-assessment and assessment by others
